in which I go to a ceilidh
I’m really not a dancing sort of person in that I have no idea how, but I like learning a little when I can, and I’ve had fun the few times I’ve been able to go dancing. I’ve been to a couple places where loud techno/electronica was being played and that was gobs of fun because I could just make it up as I went along, and I’ve danced a little at the Renaissance Fairs I’ve been to. Today was a bit like that—dancing in big groups, mostly, some of it more complicated than others, and lots of people stumbling into each other. Probably didn’t help that this had been set up through the International Office and therefore most of the people who showed up had a slightly limited grasp of English, but what are you gonna do. We did get to do a dance from Jane Austen’s time, part of which is featured in the Pride & Prejudice movie although I forget what that particular step was called.
Also there was this very cute German guy there that I’d sort of been eyeing for a while, and I got to do one of the last dances with him. He actually knew how to waltz. I did not. He was nice about it though. And I think I’ll be done on that shallow note.
