Dusk Through Narrow Streets

I’m a senior at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the former copy editor for The Northern Light, my college’s student-run campus paper. This blog started as a companion to a travel column I wrote for the paper while I studied abroad in England for the fall 2008 semester; for the most part, it contains brief, focused observations on culture in England, as well as other places I traveled while I was there (Scotland, France, and Poland).

Now that I’m back home in Alaska, though, the majority of my posts tend to be either about life in Alaska or comparisons of American and British culture. I still have every intention of discussing my time in Europe more, though (I’ll also be drawing from visits to Florida and Hawaii, for instance–maybe less interesting than Europe, but still entirely topical for a travel blog), and since Alaska is kind of exotic to most people and a common travel destination, I figure it still works as a travel blog.

This blog’s title and “about” line are from T. S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” and “Portrait of a Lady,” respectively, because I’m a big Eliot fan and also a gigantic nerd.

I haven’t updated it in a while, but I intend to at least talk about concerts I attended while I was abroad, especially since it’s practically a music blog already.

• deviantART - photography and photomanipulation, except I haven’t posted here in ages. At some point, though, some of my more artistic photographs from recent years will probably go up here.
